Upper Elementary Program

The Upper Elementary program at TMA includes children in the age range of 9 to 12 years (4th–6th grades). The elementary program curriculum conforms to state guidelines for each grade level. Upper Elementary workStudents attend classes between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m five days per week. Before and after-school care is also available. See our Fee Schedule for options and costs.

Each Friday, the students participate in enrichment classes which are taught by specialized instructors. Classes attended on Enrichment Friday include Art, Music, Junior Great Books, Conflict Resolution, Science Lab, and Latin.

The goals of the upper elementary program are to:

  • build upon skills introduced in the Lower Elementary program
  • provide personalized instruction in Mathematics and Language
  • extend the study of Cultural Subjects (Botany, Zoology, Physical Science, Geography, History, Language Arts, Writing, Mathematics, and Geometry) using a totally integrated curriculum
  • Upper elementary students hosting a voting booth for the 2004 electionsenrich the curriculum through Art, Music, Spanish, Latin, Physical Education, Computer Lab, Health, Science Lab, Junior Great Books, and Conflict Resolution
  • emphasize cooperative group work involving the classroom, the school community and the outside community
  • develop writing, research, and communication skills
  • use technology as a tool for research, writing, publishing, and presentation

The student–teacher ratio for elementary is 1 teacher for each 18 children.
